Leaders from major Christian denominations came together on Tuesday, June 28, 2010 to plan for the 2011 National Bible Week. The annual celebration endorsed by three presidents – Ferdinand Marcos (Presidential Proclamation no. 2242), Corazon Aquino (PP No. 44), and Fidel Ramos (PP No. 1067) encourages Filipinos to read, study and live daily by the Word of God.
Next year’s theme: May They Be One: “Becoming One Nation in the Stewardship of Creation” is inspired by Psalm 8:3-6. As destruction and degradation of nature spring from greed, the church leaders unanimously agreed to pursue with the new government its thrust against graft and corruption, focusing on becoming better stewards of the country’s resources.

Bible Reading and Proclamation in the regions, NBW Organizers also plan to integrate the Handwritten Bible Project into the celebration. The Handwritten Bible Project was conceptualized to raise funds for the May They Be One Bible Campaign, a major Scripture effort by the Philippine Bible Society and its partners. The Handwritten Bible involves handwriting a verse of the Scriptures for a minimum donation of PhP50 for each of the 35,500 verses in the Bible. The amount generated will be used to fund the production of five million Bibles for distribution to five million poor Filipino families. |
